"Exclusive leads" is one of the most stretched phrases in lead generation. For one vendor it means a lead sold to a single buyer. For another it means sold to a handful. For some it means nothing more than "not on a public list". If you run an agency and pay for prospects, the difference decides whether your first email lands in a quiet inbox or the tenth pitch of the week.
This page explains what the word usually means, exactly what it means at CertLeads (each lead goes to at most 3 customers, ever), the trade-offs, and the questions to ask any vendor that uses it.
Most lead products fall into one of three models. Knowing which one you are buying matters more than the label on the sales page.
Every lead is delivered to a maximum of 3 customers, ever. After each delivery it is held back for 10 days before anyone else can take it, and it is never delivered twice to the same customer.
Every lead shows its delivered counter — “delivered to 1 of 3” — before you export it, so you always know how many other agencies could have it. Read the full explanation on exclusive leads.

CertLeads uses a capped model. The same three rules apply on every plan, and they are enforced on our servers whenever leads are delivered, not in your browser. There is no tier where the cap is lifted and no add-on that sells a lead beyond it.
A cap you cannot see is a cap you have to take on trust. So every lead in the directory shows its delivery count, for example "delivered to 1 of 3". You see it before you export.
It changes how you prioritize. A lead at 0 of 3 that went live this week is a different opportunity from one at 2 of 3 that went live a month ago. One sensible way to use it: give brand-new, undelivered leads a personal email the same day, and put older or more-delivered ones into a slower sequence.
Because CertLeads detects new business websites within hours of going live, a lead is often still undelivered while the business is choosing its suppliers. The cap protects that early window instead of selling it to everyone at once. To see the counter on real leads, request a free sample for your country.
Agency customers can arrange an exclusive hold on chosen leads with our team; a held lead counts as one of its 3 deliveries.
In practice that means a conversation, not a button: if you specialize in a niche or are preparing a campaign, our team can set up a hold on the leads you choose. It is not self-serve, and it does not add a delivery beyond the cap: the hold uses up one of the 3 slots like any other delivery.
Shared contact databases are built for breadth: large numbers of established companies, refreshed on a schedule, with the same rows sold to every subscriber. That suits account-based sales into companies you already know you want.
It works less well for small and new businesses. With no limit on resale, a record loses value with each new subscriber, and you cannot tell how many others are emailing it this week.
CertLeads trades breadth for timing and limited exposure. You get businesses that have just gone live, with a visible count of how many others have them. It is a narrower product by design, and it is not a replacement for a database if you need every company in a sector.
A cap has costs, and you should know them before you buy. The first is simple: with a cap of 3, up to 2 other customers may hold the same lead. The cap limits the competition; it does not remove it. The others are practical:
Whoever you buy from, ask the questions below in writing and keep the answers. A vendor confident in its model will answer them plainly. If the answers are vague, assume the leads are shared, and price them and judge their quality on that basis.
The cap works the same for everyone, but what makes a good lead differs by what you sell. Each of these pages covers who to target and how to pitch for that kind of business:
Browsing the directory is free, and a free account includes 5 contact reveals a month. Paid plans:
14-day money-back guarantee on your first monthly subscription. Full contacts — including named personal emails and phone numbers — are shown for businesses in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, India and the UAE. Everywhere else, only company contacts are shown, such as info@ addresses and office lines; never personal emails, mobile numbers or names. Compare plans →
FAQ
No. Each lead is delivered to at most 3 customers, ever, with a 10-day cooldown between deliveries and never twice to the same customer. That is a capped model, not single-buyer. Every lead shows its delivery count before you export, so you always know where it stands.
It is the delivery counter. The first number is how many customers have received the lead so far, and the second is the maximum, which is 3. A lead that reaches 3 deliveries stops appearing in exports.
No. Once a lead has been delivered to 3 customers it is not delivered again on any plan. There is no tier or add-on that sells a lead beyond the cap.
The directory shows every matching lead, but an export only includes leads you can still receive. Leads at the cap of 3, inside the 10-day cooldown, already delivered to you, or inside your plan's access delay are held back. The export screen shows the available count before you confirm.
Agency customers can arrange an exclusive hold on chosen leads with our team; a held lead counts as one of its 3 deliveries. It is arranged with our team rather than switched on in the app, and it is not available on other plans.
Ask how many customers can receive each lead and whether that number is in the terms, whether the limit is enforced automatically at export, whether you can see a lead's delivery count before paying, and what happens to a lead once it reaches the limit. Vague answers usually mean shared leads.
